123 nuke accord not in national interest: Chautala

Hisar, Sep 5 (UNI) Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala today slammed the 123 agreement with the US claiming that it was not in the national interest.

Mr Chautala, while demanding a national debate over the issue, told newspersons here that INLD was strogly opposed to the nuke pact.

Dismissing the pro-deal lobby's argument that the deal will be Vital to Country's energy security he countered, ''to remove the power shortage, we can promote hydel projects in most part of the country.'' ''The hydel-projects will generate electricity at a reasonable price. Moreover, the surplus can also be sold to neighbouring countries,'' he added.
