100 fishermen rescued in Kerala, light rains cool north

New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) Nearly 100 fishermen stranded in high seas due to inclement weather were rescued today by the Navy and Coast Guard off the coast in Alappuzha district in Kerala while light to moderate rain was witnessed at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana and many areas in Himachal Pradesh.

In Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, vehicular movement on 300 km-long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been suspended following landslides triggered by heavy rains, official sources said.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel have started their work to clear the road, sources added.

In Delhi,however, acute hot and humid conditions returned with the maximum rising to 36.5 degrees Celsius, and the minimum to 28.2 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain was witnessed at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana and many areas in Himachal Pradesh since last night.

In Haryana, where the rains eluded most areas, Kalka had a moderate rain, recording 14.0 mm till this morning.

Light to moderate rain lashed many areas in Himachal Pradesh, including Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts, while higher reaches in tribal Kinnaur district experienced snowfall.

Shimla and its adjoining areas also had few spells of rain since last night with the capital town recording 4.5 mm till this morning.

In Bihar, morning showers brought relief to the people in state capital suffering sweltering heat and extreme humid condition.

The local Met office recorded the day's maximum temperature at 29 degrees and the minimum at 26 degrees. Maximum relative humidity was pegged at 85 per cent.

Kolkata breathed a sigh of relief with temperatures coming down owing to rainfall in most parts of the state.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 28.9 degrees and the minimum at 26.3 degrees.

Towards the south, a low pressure area has formed over south Orissa to south Tamil Nadu across coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The South West Monsoon has been active over Kerala and Lakshadweep, with most places in the region getting heavy rain.

The Southwest Monsoon has been active in Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Kerala. It has been subdued over Punjab, West Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada and Tamil Nadu.

Heavy rains have occurred at most places in Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Konkan, Goa, and Kerala, at many places in Arunachal Pradesh, and at a few places in Uttaranchal, Madhya Maharashtra and south interior Karnataka.

Rain or thundershowers have occurred at most places in coastal Karnataka, west Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, and at many places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Orissa, east Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, north interior Karnataka, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

Rain or thundershowers have occurred at a few places in Himachal Pradesh, east Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and at isolated places in Jharkhand, Bihar, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, west Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, Kutch and Tamil Nadu.
