Three militants shot dead in East Imphal district
Imphal, Sep 4 (UNI) Three militants of the People's United Liberation Front(PULF) were today shot dead in a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Imphal East police at Yorbung.
Arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession.
The Assam Rifles PRO has said that the Imphal East police commandos and 32 Assam Rifles personnel had launched an operation this morning at Yorbung in East Imphal, where suspected militants had reportedly been spotted. A brief encounter that followed resulted in the death of a PULF cadre.
The remaining cadres tried to flee but could not escape as the area was cordoned off since this morning, the PRO said.
In another encounter that followed later, resulted in the death of two more militiants, the PRO said.
The three militants have been identified as Mohammad, Akbar and Yousuf. One AK-46 along with magazines, AK-56 with 28 rounds of magazine, an 9mm pistol and five rounds were recovered from them, the PRO said.
Incidentally, 10 suspected Kuki militants were also shot dead yesterday at Tangkhul Hundung village of the Ukhrul district by suspected NSCN(IM) cadres.
