Tension over death of a youth

Hubli, Sep 4 (UNI) Tension prevailed near Keshawapur police station in the city following stone pelting by an enraged group over the death of a youth, who was allegedly beaten by the police and died on way to a hospital.

Girish Shiggavi (22) was taken to the police station late this afternoon after he was caught while gambling and was released later.

But the youth who returned home in a bad condition with injuries and was rushed to the hospital by his relatives where he was declared brought dead.

Enraged over the death, people of the area assembled in front of the police station and started pelting stones, in which two policemen were injured.

Police resorted to mild lathi charge to disburse the group and additional police force had been deployed in the area.
