Gangtok, Sep 4 (UNI) With the outcry over radiation threat following the mushrooming of mobile towers raging the capital, the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) of Sikkim has asked the mobile operators to launch an awareness campaign to allay the fears.

SPCB sources here today informed that a meeting was recently held between representatives of the seven mobile operators in the state and the SPCB.

The mobile operators were directed by the SPCB to disseminate factual information to the people over the electro magnetic radiation emitted by the mobile towers.

Presently, towers were stationed atop many buildings in the state generating fears among the locals over the safety.

An NGO "Concern-Sikkim" had recently organised a seminar here and expressed its apprehension.

Following this, the SPCB had invited the representatives from the operators to present their views on this issue.

The SPCB had also appealed to the people not to spread misleading rumour over the radiation and seek factual information.

Meanwhile, the SPCB had also sent a letter to the National Pollution Control Board (NPCB) to guide them over the issue.

" We are awaiting the report from the NPCB, " said an official.
