Services affected in Safdarjung hospital for few hours

New Delhi, Sep 4 (UNI) Emergency and OPD services in Safdarjung hospital here were affected for a few hours following a brief strike by resident doctors which was withdrawn in the evening.

Patients were returned or asked to go to AIIMS for treatment during the strike which the doctors said was called because the hospital authorities had failed to fulfill their demands.

However, timely intervention by hospital authorities and assurance that their demands will be considered in two days convinced the agitating doctors to call off the strike.

Recently services were crippled in the government-run GTB hospital for more than 10 days after the junior doctors went on strike, demanding stepped up security in the hospital.

On Saturday, the junior doctors in GTB hospital called off the strike.

Last night in Safdarjung Hospital a duty doctor was attacked by attendants of a patients for not providing a bed. As a fallout of that incidents, the residents did not report to work this morning.

This afternoon after an emergency meeting of the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA), the doctors decided to boycott work till their long-pending demands-- increasing the number of beds for patients, better facilities and infrastructure and stepped up security--were not met.

Medical Superintendent R M Sallhan assured the RDA that the demands will considered within two days and medical services were resumed immediately.
