RBEU calls strike in Kolkata RBI on September 26

Kolkata, Sep 4 (UNI) The Reserve Bank Employees Union(RBEU) has called a strike on September 26 with a demand for immediate recruitment of Class Three staff in RBI here.

Talking to newspersons today, RBEU general secretary Sudipta Saha Roy said fresh recruitment in Class Three cadre in Kolkata RBI was long overdue, but the Bank management was yet to fill up the posts.

He said earlier in 1999 the RBEU workers under the leadership of the All India Reserve Bank Employees Association pressed the management for fresh recruitment following which the RBI recruited 300 employees on all India basis. Of them 50 were posted in Kolkata, he added.

These apart, no recruitment had taken place for the past 17 years, he added.

He said there were altogether 16,793 Class Three staff throughout the country in 1994 and the number had come down to 7000 and added that similarly 2192 Class Three staff were there in RBI Kolkata, but now it stood at 739.

" The recruitment of staff in Class Three is essential and we have been campigning throughout the country in this regard, " Mr Saha Roy said.

The RBEU would organise a dharna in front of the RBI's Kolkata office on September 7 and a convention would be held on September 14 to focus the issue in Chennai, Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram, he informed and said, " We will call an all India strike later. " UNI
