Qazi releases Rs 2 cr for Charari-e-Sharief Khankah

Srinagar, Sep 4 (UNI) Shortly before resigning from the Congress led coalition government in the Jammu and Kashmir, the minister for Housing and Urban Development Qazi Mohammad Afzal today released Rs two crores for construction of Khankah at Charar- e-Sharief.

Mr Qazi, who was stripped of Forest, Environment and Ecology portfolio by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad two days ago, following allegations of creating artificial timber scarcity in the state conducted extensive tour of the Charari-e-Sharief town.

Speaking on the occasion, he announced a Rs two crore for construction of ongoing project of khankah, adjacent to shrine of Sheikh Nooruddin Wali. Rs 4.25 crore stand already utilised on the under construction Khankah agaist the total cost of Rs 26 crore.

He asked the executive agencies to speed up the pace of construction while assuring that funds would not be allowed to impede the progress in this regard.

The Minister also suggested for constitution of a committee with man of integrity as members for facilitating allotment of plots to the genuine beneficiaries.

He said that the committee would also render help in assisting officers in executing development works for integrated development of Charari-e-Sharief town.

Qazi Afzal said that the main thrust of the government has been integrated development of towns under Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Town (UIDSSMT).

For the purpose, he said sewerage, drainage and solid waste management are being improved while Rs 14.12 crore water supply project has also been approved for improving drinking water facility in the town.
