Over 100 hospitalised after consuming 'prasad' in Jammu district

Jammu, Sept 4 (UNI) More than a 100 people, including women and children, were hospitalised after consuming 'prasad' from a temple at Akhnoor in Jammu district here this evening, police said.

A large number of people assembled at Shiv Temple in Gad village on the outskirts of Akhnoor town and consumed 'prasad' distributed to them after prayers, police told UNI over phone, adding that they complained of of vomiting and severe abdominal pain on returning home.

''The 'Prasad' was cooked yesterday and distributed among devotees this evening. Ninety-eight devotees complained of vomiting and severe abdomen pain after consuming 'prasad' and were shifted to sub-district hospital Akhnoor,'' SHO said.

A doctor on duty, Dr Suman Kant, said more than one hundred people were brought to the hospital complaining of abdomen pain and vomiting. The victims, he said, included women and children.

Police said a case has been registered and investigation was underway.
