One die in family dispute, nine severly burnt

Raisen, MP, Sep 4 (UNI) A pregnant woman succumbed to burn injuries and about eight people of a family were injured when a person poured petrol on them and set them on fire over a family dispute at Maheshwar village in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, police said today.

The incident took place at Bareli area around midnight. Nine severely burned were rushed to Hamidia hospital in the state capital where Sumitrabai succumbed. The condition of three others was stated to be critical.

Accused Kanchhedilal Shilli wanted to keep his younger brother Dhaniram's wife with him forcibly. He was having a dispute with Dhaniram's in-laws over the matter. Dhaniram used to live with his in-laws.

Kanchhedilal, who was arrested some days back on the basis of a complaint by Dhaniram's wife, wanted to take revenge. He reached Maheshwar last night and poured petrol on Dhaniram and his in-laws.

Kanchhedilal was also injured in the incident.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed Bhopal Divisional Commissioner B R Naidu to make arrangements for complete treatment of the injured.

He announced Rs 50,000 ex-gratia to family members of the deceased besides RS 10,000 ex-gratia each to the injured.

Mr Naidu and Inspector General of Police Anil Kumar met the injured in the Hamidia hospital.

Meanwhile, state Congress spokesperson Manak Agrawal described the incident as sad and demanded Rs 10 lakh financial assistance for the victims for rehabilitation besides providing free treatment.
