Chennai, Sep 4 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) P Rajendran today asserted that there was no specific threat of any possible terror attack in Channai and said the state was ''a haven of peace. '' Talking to newspersons here, he denied reports that ultras had infiltrated into the State.

''There is no specific information of any extremist alert from the Intelligence Bureau to us,' he said and added that a warning received two days ago was part of an all India alert, which was issued in the aftermath of the twin blasts in Hyderabad, to beef up the security.

Observing that the Union Home Ministry had alerted all the states to step up surveillance and sensitise the police force to keep extra vigil at religious and public places especially during festive occasions, he said the state intelligence had been monitoring the situation closely.

The DGP warned of stringent action against those spreading rumours about terrorist attacks in the state.

On reports of ultras infiltration into the state, the DGP appealed to the media to ascertain the facts and publish them accordingly.

To a query, Mr Rajendran said ''following the Hyderabad blasts, we are maintaining a close watch on the movement of suspicious elements in the state. We are also collecting information of foreigners overstaying in the state''.

When asked about the functioning of the co-ordination council for intelligence in southern states, he said, 'the intelligence and investigation departments were functioning smoothly and informations were being exchanged properly.

Mr Rajendran said more police force would be deployed for the forthcoming 'Vinayaka Chaturthi' and security would be stepped up.
