Left leaders meet TN CM over nuke deal

Chennai, Sept 4 (UNI) Left party leaders Prakash Karat and D Raja today called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi and discussed the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The two leaders met the Chief Minister separately at his Gopalapuram residence and discussed the issue and the steps being taken by the Centre to break the impasse.

Talking to newspersons, CPI(M) leader Karat said he told the Chief Minister about the committee constituted by the Centre to discuss the issue and was optimistic of a solution.

Later Mr Raja, accompanied by state unit leaders, called on Mr Karunanidhi and discussed the issue.

The two leaders expressed their concern about the ongoing joint naval exercises of India with the US, Japan, Australia, and Singapore in the Bay of Bengal.
