'Janmashtami' celebrated with enthusiasm in Nashik
Nashik, Sep 4 (UNI) 'Janmashtami', the festival observed to mark the birth of Lord Srikrishna, was today celebrated in the city and adjoing areas with enthusiasm and religious fervour.
The preparations for celebration began yesterday afternoon.
Various religious programmes, such as worship, bhajans and mahaprasad, were held last midnight to observe the birth of the Lord in the city's various temples including Balaji Temple in Kapadbazar area, Muktidham, Bhaktidham and Sri Gopalkrishna Seva Sansthan.
The atmosphere was charged with chants of 'mantras' and slogans such as 'Govind bolo Gopal bolo, radharaman Hari Gopal bolo' and 'Hare Ram Hare Krishna'.
Today, various mandals and organisations had organised 'Dahi Handis' or 'Gopal Kala' in various parts of the city, with Govindas trying their skill and luck to win prizes.
Meanwhile, this year, on the line of 'Dahi Handis' in Mumbai and other big cities, a local social organisation, Disha, has organised 'Dahi Handi' on September 6. The winner will get a handsome prize. A Govinda team from Thane will be the main attraction of the event.
