Janmashtami celebrated in Manipur

Imphal, Sep 4: Janmashtami is being celebrated with great fanfare in Manipur today.

Hundreds of devotees started pouring in at the Shri Govindajee temple of ISKCON here since early morning to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna.

Massive security arrangements were also made in view of the festival.

At least six people had been killed in a blast at the ISKCON temple last year.

ISKCON temple president Ajit Das said despite the blast, many people had come to offer prayers amid tight security.

A symposium on 'Value of Education in the present society' would be held later today at the temple complex, he added.

Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu called upon the people to dedicate themselves to the ideals and path of righteousness as espoused by Lord Krishna.

Meanwhile, a colourful view was seen outside the temple complex with large numbers of people selling toys, sweets and flowers.
