Janamasthmi Rath Yatra begins

Rajkot, Gujarat, Sep 4 (UNI) The annual 'Janamashtami Rath Yatra' organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) began here today morning.

Starting from Kishan Para Chowk of the city, thousands of devotees have lined up at several points to have a glimpse of Lord Krishna on his birthday.

The Yatra comprises 120 colourful floats depicting the life and times of Lord Krishna being carried on 125 decorated trucks and tractors.

The Yatra will pass through several places such as Jila Panchayat Chowk, Panchanath Temple, Trikonbaugh, Sanganwa Chowk, Prahalad Road, Karanpara, Gondal Road, Bhaktinagar, Sorathiyavadi, Jila Garden before concluding at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk.

Janamasthami is celebrated every year on the eighth day of the dark fortnight which is also known as the 'Krishna Paksha' to celebrate the birthday of Lord Krishna. The period usually coincides with the rainy season.
