Flood havoc continues to hover Eastern UP
Lucknow, Sep 4 (UNI) Eastern Uttar Pradesh is once again affected by the turbulent Ghaghra, Rapti and Banganga rivers that have swelled following incessant rainfall in the last 24 hours.
The flood was again wreaking havoc in Siddharthnagar, Santkabirnagar and Basti districts.
Almost 12 villages of the Shauratgarh tehsil in Siddharthnagar are affected and thousands of hectares of land submerged. Vehicular movement at Siddharthnagar-Balrampur highway remain blocked.
According to Central Water Commission, Ghaghra was overflowing the red mark by 23 cm, 15 cm and 4 cm in Turtipar, Ayodhya and Elign Bridge (Barabanki) respectively.
Sharda was flowing below the danger mark by 1 cm and 34 cm in Paliyakala and Shardanagar, while, Rapti was underflowing the danger mark by 25 cm, 27 cm and 47 cm respectively in Balrampur, Bardghat (Gorakhpur) and Rigauli.
Siddharthnagar district magistrate Surya Lal Singh said, ''a dam broke in Mahta Gram Panchayat by the swelling Banganag river.'' About 25 villages of Ganghata tehsil were inundated in Santkabirnagar district.
Almost 200 people had been affected in the district.
Besides, over 100 villages were marooned in Harraiya Tehsil of Basti. The rescue and relief operation was on with full swing.
In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded in Baghpat at 9 cm, followed by Moradabad at 7 cm, Jaunpur and Katarniyaghat at 3 cm each. Bansi and Paliyakala witnessed rainfall of 2 cm each.
The weathermen have forecast scanty downpur at few places of the state.
