Farmers take out morcha against land acquisition for SEZ
Kolhapur, Sep 4 (UNI) The farmers from Vadgaon, Vathar, Mangarayachiwadi, Sambhapur and nearby villages today took out a morcha to the District Collectorate to protest the acquisition of their land for Special Economic Zones (SEZ).
The farmers gathered at Bindu chowk here under the banner of Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Kisan Sabha, and marched through the city's main streets en route to district collectorate shouting slogans against the government move.
The morcha, led by CPI senior leader Govind Pansare, Kisan Sabha general secretary Namdev Gavde and MLA Rajiv Awale, met district collector and submitted a memorandum of farmers' deamnds.
Later, addressing a meeting, Mr Pansare warned that the agitation would be intensified if the government did not stop the land acquisition process.
