Kochi, Sep 4 (UNI) The CBI today filed an interim report in a sealed cover before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Ernakulam on its investigation into the death of Sister Abhaya.

The CJM had on May 14 directed the CBI to file an interim report, in a sealed cover, on the progress in its investigation into the death of the 21-year-old nun of the Pius X Convent hostel in Kottayam, whose body was found in a well on the convent premises in March 1992.

The CJM's direction came on a petition filed by Sister Abhaya's father M Thomas, complaining about lack of progress in the CBI investigation.

The CBI had concluded in November 1996 that the nun's death was due to homicide, but stated that ''the case remained untraced''.

The magistrate did not accept this as the final report of the CBI and had directed it to conduct a fresh investigation.

After conducting further investigations, the agency concluded that there was no indication of involvement of any person in the death.

In its additional report, the agency had pleaded that the case be treated ''as closed and untraced''.

The Magistrate Court, however, rejected the report and again directed the CBI to conduct further investigations.
