AIADMK leader charges DMK with opportunism

Puducherry, Sep 4 (UNI) AIADMK state secretary A Anbazhagan today charged the DMK in Puducherry with 'opportunism and selfishness.' Addressing a press conference here, Mr Anbazhagan said the AIADMK on several occasions had highlighted the lapses and corruption of the Congress government here. However, the DMK, having the opposition party status had failed to do this.

The DMK's demand yesterday for the post of chairpersons of government corporation and boards for the party and distribution of application forms for welfare schemes for party leaders showed the party's sheer selfishness, Mr Anbazhagan pointed out.

Stating that the three textile mills here where 400 people were employed had incurred a loss of Rs 300 crore in the last ten years, the AIADMK leader said if the government was really interested in protecting the mills, representatives of the workers, staffs, experts and officials of the finance department should be included in high-level committee set up to look into its functioning and also sought provision of Central DA to the mill workers.

Alleging that the functioning of the education department was affected due to non-filling up various senior posts, he said scarcity of teachers was being experienced in rural areas and the department was not taking any initiative to fill the posts.
