UPA government not providing enough rice to Karnataka: CM

Mysore, Sep 3 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today alleged that the UPA government was not providing the state with enough supply of rice to be distributed to people in below poverty line.

Speaking at Hunsur near here, he said the state was facing severe shortage of rice meant to be supplied in public distribution system and this was because of the attitude of the Centre which was not providing the state enough stocks.

"We told them that we are ready to pay more for additional supply of rice. But they are not heeding to our requests," he complained.

Mr Kumraswamy also expressed confidence that the JD(S)-BJP coalition government would completed its full term and there was no doubt in it and it would also fulfill all the promises made by the government.

Deputy chief Minister B S Y Yediyurappa said that the government had taken up developmental works in each of 224 assembly segments in the state.

Denying the allegations that his party (BJP) was against the minorities in the state, he said Rs 150 crore had been earmarked for the minorities cell in the budget and another Rs 4100 crore for the scheduled castes and tribes, he added.
