Tourism ministry provides financial aid for Rural Tourism

Shillong, Sep 3 (UNI) The Tourism and Culture Ministry is providing financial assistance to Meghalya for setting up Rural Tourism Hubs.

Aid is being provided to set up such projects in select villages.

In Meghalaya, two villages -- Ialong in Jaintia Hills district and Sasatgre in West Garo Hills district -- have been selected for the same.

During the year 2006-07, assistance was granted under the infrastructure and capacity building components with amounts of Rs 40 lakh and Rs 11.84 lakh respectively to Jaintia Hills district and Rs 30.79 and Rs 16.80 lakhs to West Garo Hills district.

The responsibility for the implementation of such Rural Tourism Projects rested with the concerned state governments, officials here said.

The Ministry also monitors the progress of the projects from time to time.
