Siddaramaiah calls upon farmers to fight against Chemalapura plant
Mysore, Sep 3 (UNI) Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah today called upon the farmers to fight against the proposed Rs 5,500 Crore Chamalapura Thermal Plant.
Addressing the farmers at Chamalapura village, near here, he urged the farmers not to sell their land for the plant.
Taking strong exception on a statement by Minister of Power H D Revanna to go ahead with the Plant despite strong protest, Mr Siddaramaiah alleged that the Minister has not taken into consideration the impact of the plant on environment and nearly 20,000 people who would be displaced.
Former Union Minister V Srinivasa Prasad, speaking on the occasion, urged the State government not to approve the project as it would lead to health hazard.
Both the leaders extended their support to the fight against the plant.
Meanwhile, farmers of Chamalapura and neighbouring villages staged a Rasta Roko on Mysore-Hunsur road for some time.
