Rain-related casualties in Raj rise to 59: snow in Kinnaur

New Delhi, Sep 3 (UNI) Four people were killed in rain-related incidents in Rajasthan in the past 24 hours taking the toll in the state this monsoon to 59 as intense cold prevailed in the tribal district of Kinnuar in Himachal Pradesh after mild intermittent snow in the higher altitude areas.

Two people, including one woman, were washed away in a flash flood at a picnic spot at Bhanwar Kunj on Chambal river in Kota yesterday.

Another two were killed after they were struck by lightning in Bhilwara district last night. A 50-year-old woman of Bharlia village near Shambugarh was struck by lightning while working in her farm.

Twelve-year-old Rattanlal of Raida village under Karoyi police station was also killed by lightning.

The south-west monsoon has been vigorous in Jammu and Kashmir.

Heavy to moderate rainfall was received at Himachal Pradesh.

Widespread rains lashed almost all mid and lower hills in the state during the last 24 hours.

Intermittent rain lashed the capital town of Shimla during the day after an overcast sky. Upper areas of Shimla district, including tourist places of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda, the key tourist place of Manali in Kullu district and Kasauli in Solan district also had rainfall.

Moderate rains lashed isolated places in Punjab and Haryana Sharp showers lashed Chandigarh today after monsoon clouds enveloped the city, providing relief from humid weather conditions.

The national capital was lashed by moderate showers this afternoon bringing down the mercury with minimum temperature touching 25.5 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal.

The Met office has forecast a generally cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with possibility of rain and thundershowers in few areas.

Rains or thundershowers occurred at isolated places in east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, west and east Rajasthan.

In the west, 30 talukas in Gujarat received moderate rainfall in the past 24 hours. State flood control issued high alert to 133 reservoirs filled up to 90 to 100 per cent, 16 reservoirs filled up to 80 to 90 per cent and 11 reservoirs filled up to 70 to 80 per cent.

Landslide triggerred by week-long torrents cut off Darjeeling, the Queen of Hills, from rest of West Bengal.

Darjeeling saw landslides at six places between Tindharia and Rong-Tong of Kurseong sub-division this morning.

In Sikkim, incessant rains disrupted all efforts to clear the landslide near Coronation Bridge which had disrupted traffic along NH 31A for the past nine days.

Rain and thundershowers are likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Orissa.

In the southern part of the country, heavy rainfall lashed coastal and hilly areas in Karnataka during the past 24 hours.

However, no substantial loss of property or life was reported from any part of the state.

Rains occurred at many places in Kerala owing to active south-west monsoon, while a few places in Lakshwadeep were also lashed by rains.

The met office also warned of isolated heavy rains over Kerala in the next 48 hrs.

Rain or thundershowers have occured at a few places in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, north interior Karnataka and at isolated places in Tamil Nadu.
