Jaya charges MK busy on TV Channel despite terrorist threat
Chennai, Sep 3 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today launched a blistering attack against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for allegedly ''being busy'' with the launch of his television channel ''Kalaignar TV'' when the city was facing a threat of terrorist attack.
In a statement here, she said people were under the grip of fear following the reports that three or four terrorist outfits were planning to plant bombs at a crowded place in the city, but Mr Karunanidhi remained ''unperturbed'' and was ''busy'' with the launch of the TV Channel.
Claiming that she had reliable information that the intelligence reports never reached the Chief Minister, the leader of the Opposition alleged that whenever the intelligence wing submitted any report, two of his cabinet colleagues prevented them from taking it to the Chief Minister.
She said after the twin blast in Hyderabad, there were reports that some terrorist outfits were planning to carry out similar attacks in the city and were awaiting orders from the top. But despite a warning to this effect by the intelligence wing, the Chief Minister was not taking any action, she charged.
Ms Jayalalithaa said the newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) was equally irresponsible as he had stated that he had assumed the office only three days ago and had not received any information regarding the attack.
As the people were losing faith in the government, the Chief Minister, his ministerial colleagues and the police officials should take immediate steps to save the people from the impending danger and maintain law and order, she urged.
