Institute gives catamarans to fishermen's SHG
Puducherry, Sep 3 (UNI) A Chennai-based private institution donated two plastic catamarans to a fishermen's Self-Help Group at Thengaithittu here.
Talking to newspersons here today, Murugappa Chettiyar Research Institute Director Seshadri said the catamarans were given on an experimental basis.
The fishermen who use it would have to give a fortnightly report on it's functioning. The eight metre-long and 1.25 metre-wide catmarans had a life of 50 years and cost Rs 35,000 each, he said.
Puducherry Deputy Forest Conservator Devarajan, who participated in the function, said with its dense green cover Thengaithittu had all the potential to develop through tourism.
