New Delhi, Sept 3 (UNI) The India is trying to verify facts about the arrest by Bangladesh police of one Mohammad Sharifuddin alias 'Hamza', a Huji operative alleged to have masterminded the Mecca Mosque blast and provided logistics for the recent twin blasts in Hyderabad.

''I have seen the reports. We have asked for information. We are trying to find out and get more information,'' Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta told reporters.

Asked if the government has taken up the matter with the Bangladesh Government, Mr Gupta said that that ministry was trying to gather information from its own sources.

Reports here said that the Bangladesh police had picked up Mohammad Sharifuddin, a Bangladeshi HuJI operative, and were questioning him. He was suspected to be among the two persons identified by the security agencies and police to have planted the bombs at Gokul Chat Bhandar and Light and Sound Show at Hyderabad on August 25 killing 44 people and injuring scores.

Sharifuddin alias 'Hamza' and 'Kanchan' had allegedly extended support to Bangladesh based HuJI and Pakistan-based militant groups for monetary gains.

Hamza had reportedly undertaken the task under the orders of HuJI commander Abdul Shahid Mohammed alias "Bilal", the main accused in the twin blasts.

India may also make a request through diplomatic channels as the two countries, during the recent Indo-Bangla Home Secretary level talks, had decided upon to set up a joint mechanism for sharing actionable intelligence.
