CPI hopeful of positive outcome on nuke deal talks
Puducherry, Sep 3 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) is hopeful of some positive outcomes out of the discussions in the UPA-Left Committee, to be set up to debate on the Indo-US civil nuclear deal issue, CPI Secretary D Raja said today.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the Left had agreed to the constitution of the Committee with this hope only and it was up to the UPA and the Union Government to ensure this. As it was agreed to look into certain concerns raised by the Left, they were prepared to wait till the discussions were over, he added.
Mr Raja asked the UPA to constitute the Committee at the earliest. Whenever necessary, the Committee should invite experts, scientists and economists to get their opinions as it would be an apolitical one.
To a question, he made it clear that the Left would not compromise with the BJP on any issue. ''The Left has nothing to do with the BJP,'' he said.
