Centre, TN Govt asked to enact law on reservation

Chennai, Sep 3 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Dalit Sena has urged the Union and State Governments to enact a law, providing for reservation to the backward classes while appointing honorary chairmen for various corporations and boards.

A unanimous resolution to this effect was adopted at the State level executive meeting of the Sena held here, its President A M Palaanimuthu said.

He said the Dalit Sena wanted both the Centre and the State to enact a law, providing for adequate reservation to BCs, SCs, STs and women in all kinds of lease, honorary nominations, appointments in corporations and boards and in financial allocations, both lease and contract.

Mr Palaanimuthu said the meeting welcomed the steps taken by the State Government for industrial growth. But, the Government should take into account the sentiments of locals and provide employment opportunities while promoting industrial growth.

He lamented that though the State Government had promised to appoint professors belonging to SC/STs to fill backlog vacancies, it had not been following the reservation system while filling up posts in Government aided colleges and schools.
