Centre release 41 cr for Tripura fence victim

Agartala, Sep 3: Centre has released Rs 41 crore to compensate the people displaced due to erection of fences along the border between Bangladesh and Tripura.

According to official record, 73,000 bonafide Indians, huge amount of farmland, seven temples and 33 government institutions in Tripura were trapped in a no-man's land along the Bangladesh border.

''We had asked for Rs 93 crore for resettlement of the displaced families immediately, but so far we got the sanction of Rs 41 crore,'' said State Finance Minister Keshab Majumder.

Meanwhile, Forest Minister Jitendra Choudhury said the government has sent a proposal for allowing the people to use the reserve forest land alloted to Ministry of Environment and Forest.
