Call to fight against Chemalapura plant
Mysore, Sep 3 (UNI) Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah today called upon the farmers to fight against the proposed Rs 5,500 crore Chamalapura Thermal Plant.
Addressing the farmers at Chamalapura village near here, he urged them not to sell their land for the plant.
Taking strong exception to Power Minister H D Revanna's statement that the government would to ahead with the Plant despite strong protest, Mr Siddaramaiah alleged that the Minister had not taken into consideration its impact on the environment and the nearly 20,000 people who would be displaced.
Speaking on the occasion, former Union Minister V Srinivasa Prasad urged the state government not to approve the project as it would lead to health hazards.
Both the leaders extended their support to the fight against the plant.
Meanwhile, farmers of Chamalapura and neighbouring villages staged a 'rasta roko' on Mysore-Hunsur road for some time.
