All women temple opens gates for male devotees on Janmashtami
Phagwara, Sept 3 (UNI) A unique temple here, ''managed by women exclusively for women,'' today opened its gates for male devotees on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami.
The ''Shri Sindooran Devi Temple'', where men are otherwise debarred, saw a long queue of male devotees thronging to pay obeisance since early this morning.
The temple was tastefully decorated by women volunteers, who were also involved in the rituals, making and distribution of prasad and managing the crowds to ensure that all the functions related to the Krishna Janam (birth) passed off peacefully.
During a large congregation on the occasion, religious speakers exhorted devotees to respect women and elders and celebrate the birthday of Lord Krishna by adopting his philosophy of ''Nishkam Karma'' (duty without expectation of result).
