Tension prevails at airport following passengers agitation

Tiruchirapalli, sep 2 (UNI) Tension prevailed for a while at the Airport here today from wee hours when a section of the Tiruchirapalli-Colombo Mihin Lanka Airlines passengers resorted an agitation to accommodate them in the flight to Colombo.

Official sources said 150 passengers, who had booked their tickets to Colombo for yesterday's flight were stranded when the flight developed a technical snag and was grounded since 0800 hours from yesterday. The passengers were accommodated in different hotels of the city and asked to report for check-in at 0500 hours today.

Meanwhile, the same number of passengers booked their tickets to Colombo in today's flight, came to the airport, demanding that they be accommodated in the flight. Following this, both the passengers of yesterday and today got agitated and exchanged wordy duel.

Based on the information, police and other officials at the airport pacified the agitated passengers with an assurance that yesterday's passengers would be taken to Colombo by the morning flight, and today's passengers in the evening flight Following this, the flight left for Colombo with yesterday's passengers at 1130 hours against the scheduled departure of 0800 hours, the sources added.
