Nanavati Commission to hear CD application tomorrow
Ahmedabad, Sep 2 (UNI) The Nanavati-Shah Commission, investigating the 2002 Godhra and Post-Godhra riots in Gujarat, will hear the controversial phone call data compact disc application tomorrow.
The Commission has also fixed for tomorrow scheduled hearings to probe the incidents which took place in Dariapur, Shahibaug and Sardarnagar areas of Ahmedabad.
Earlier, the Commission had directed the Gujarat Government to submit its analysis report on the CDs, containing details of mobile phone calls made and received by top politicians, government officials and police officers during the 2002 riots.
This was directed following the submission of the analysis report along with the CD by Advocate Mukul Sinha representing the NGO Jansangharsh Manch last month.
Advocate Sinha told the Commission that he had received the copy of the CDs from the Banerjee Commission, investigating the Sabarmati Express carnage.
However, in reply to the Commission's order, the Gujarat Government informed that it had no CDs containing mobile phone data pertaining to the 2002 riots.
Special Counsel for Gujarat Government Arvind H Pandya requested the Commission to supply copies of the said CDs lying with it and grant appropriate time to analyse them before replying to the charges by the Jansangharsh Manch.
The analysis by the NGO questions the role of certain top police officers, politicians, including the Chief Minister, and the perpetrators of the communal riots.
The Commission has given a final chance to those affected persons left out in their earlier hearings. It has fixed the case hearings of Gomtipur, Bapunagar, Rakhial, Odhav and Amraiwadi on September five. Vatva, Maninagar, Danilimda and Kagdapith police station areas will be heard on September six while Vejalpur, Ellisbridge, Satellite, Navarangpura, Naranpura and Ghatlidia police station incidents on September seven. On September ten, the Commission will hear Naroda and Meghaninagar areas which witnessed killings of over 150 persons.
