in
militancy-related
cases
in

Kashmir
during
the
past
two
years,
officials
said
today.
Out of 4572 such cases registered during the past two years, 1535 charge-sheet has been filed, they informed.
The official said the reasons for less conviction in militancy-related cases were manifold.
In most cases, witnesses turn hostile or do not attend courts for their disposition, they added.
Non-production of seized arms and ammunition for their identification, non-appearance of prosecution, witness and civilians turning hostile in courts were the other reasons for much low conviction rate in such cases in the state, the officials said.
Also, the officials said a total of 280 foreigners, including Bangladeshi nationals, were apprehended in Jammu and Kashmir during the past two years.
To check the menace, they said strict vigil has been maintained on the borders with fencing being one of the effective measures.
