Mr Singh quoting an adage of ''a fish begins to rot from the head'' put the blame of the erosion in value system and integrity on the political leadership in the country. Mr Singh, while going down the memory lane, recollected his days in the Mayo College along with Shekar, described it 'the most Indian of Indian public schools'', as the most exciting period in his life.

Mr Singh while complimenting Mr Shekar for this book called for bureaucrats and political leaders to pen their experience as it throws light on their experience which would help the younger generation to get an insight of the past. He lamented that the readership in India continues to be very low and writing not a rewarding profession.

This touching tale of times gone by, will strike a chord with its readers as they go along to discover the humane facet of a uniformed service otherwise known for its formal rigid approch''.
