Employment provided to BHEL run Arivayalayam inmates

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 2(UNI) In a unique gesture, seven inmates of the Arivalayam, a school for the mentally challenged and the hearing impaired run by the public sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) here were given employment by three private companies.

A BHEL press release here today said the highlight of the whole process was that the captains of the Industry had themselves visited the Arivalayam and chosen suitable children for operations, after assessing their capabilities.

Presenting the appointment orders to the children in a function held here on Friday last, BHEL's Executive Director and Patron-in-chief, Mishra of Arivalayam lauded the noble gesture of the Industries for providing employment to the mentally challenged children, and had helped them to become independent.

Mr Mishra also complimented the teachers for making the children independent and honing their skills, and said the process should continue with more Industries coming forward to absorb the children.

In his address, Arivalayam President and Assistant General Manager(Planning and Development) BHEL, G Uma Shankar said the Institution would establish a workshop on its premises to provide training to its students, keeping in mind the need of the Industry, so that the children could be gainfully employed.

The parents of the children expressed their gratitude to the teachers and the Industrialists for having helped their children to eke out a decent living.
