A novel project for female inmates in Puri jail


Puri, Sep 2: Female inmates of Puri jail were roped in a novel project to give them religious satisfaction.

A scheme formulated by the 'Janasikshyana', a voluntary organization for the female inmates of Puri district jail would not only increase their income but also give a religious satisfaction for being linked to the service of the lord Jagnnath.

According to District Jailor S K Pattnaik, nearly 35 female inmates of the jail, both convicts and under trial prisoners were given job to prepare palmleaf boxes for use in the Jagannath temple for packing of Mahaprasad.

He said the female prisoners would be supplied with required raw palm leaf by the Janasikshyana, which would buy back the product and supply it to the temple.

The project was inaugurated by Puri District Collector Rashmi Ranjan Pattnaik in a formal function inside the jail here yesterday. UNI
