1508 militants killed in J&K in 2005-06

Srinagar, Sep 2 (UNI) A total of 1508 militants, 966 civilians and 426 security forces have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir during the past two years, officials said today.

They said while 917 militants were gunned down in 2005, as many as 556 civilian and 244 security personnel lost their lives in the same year.

The officials said 591 militants, 410 civilians and 182 security personnel were killed in 2006.

The security forces included police personnel, special police officers and village defence committee members.

The officials also said that 13 custodial deaths had been reported during 2005-06.

The cases are under investigations.
