Teacher beaten up after allegations of sexual harassment

Nagpur, Sep 1 (UNI) Activists of a political party beat up a teacher in a private coaching class after a girl student levelled allegations of sexual harassment against him in Chandrapur district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

According to police, activists of the Shiv Sena beat up the teacher, Sujit Mandal, after allegations from the girl, a student of class XII, yesterday.

The activists also ransacked the coaching class and damaged furniture and fixtures there, police said.

In her complaint lodged with the police later, the girl said that Mandal had called her home, showed her an obscene film clip on his laptop computer, and misbehaved with her, a few weeks ago.

The police have registered an offence against Mandal under sections 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 293 ( sale, etc of obscene objects to young person) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him.
