Prathiba Patil pays homage to Rajiv Gandhi at Sriperumbudur

Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, Sep 1 (UNI) President Prathiba Patil today paid homage to late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi at his memorial here.

Ms Patil offered her tributes to a decorated portrait of the late leader.

She also showered rose petals at the place, where he was killed by a LTTE woman suicide bomber on May 21, 1991.

The President was received at the memorial by Tamil Nadu Governor S S Barnala, Kancheepuram District Collector Pradeep Yadav, State Social Welfare Minister Poongothai, CWC member Chopra, TNCC President M Krishnasamy and Congress legislators.

Police had made elaborate security arrangements for her visit.
