No increase in prices of foodgrains supplied through PDS: Minister
Bangalore, Sept 1 (UNI) Karnataka Minister for Civil Supplies Govinda Karajol today ruled out possibility of increase in the prices of foodgrains supplied through Public Distribution System in the State.
Talking to newsmen here, he said that state was bearing a burden of over Rs 800 crore per year due to distribution of food grains to over 86 lakh families living Below Poverty Line (BPL).
While the Union government provides subsidy for 32 lakh families, the state government covers over 86 lakh families.
Stating that over 30 per cent of families enlisted under BPL were false, the state government also taking strict measures to get removed the ineligible families from the list.
