K C Jena takes over as new chairman of Railway Board

New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) K C Jena, a 1971 batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service, has taken over as the new chairman of the Railway Board and ex officio Principal Secretary to the Union Ministry of Railways.

Mr Jena takes over the post, the highest office in the Indian Railways, after having held important operational management assignments on the South Eastern Railway including that of the Chief Freight Traffic Manager, a Northern railway release said.

''His ascendancy to the Railway Board comes at a time when the Indian railway is witness to an unprecedented turnaround and is in the thores of an order-of-magnitude change,''the release said.

Prior to joining this post, Mr Jena was holding the post of Member (Staff), Railway Board since July 31 last year.

''He brings to the office his erudite knowledge and scholarship, imbibed in course of his study, among others, at the Madras Christian College, Chennai and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur,''the release said.
