Govt to provide all out support to public health care: Dikshit

New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) Lauding the yeomen service rendered by doctors working for public hospitals, Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit today assured the medical community of all possible support with the ultimate aim of improving the plight of the suffering humanity.

The Chief Minister was launching the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), which entails year long functions in this regard.

Ms Dikshit said the State government was seized of the problems plaguing the public sector health care system and no effort would be spared to tackle them.

She said while the private sector health care has grown manifold, the confidence which institutions like MAMC inspire surpasses those of the private sector.

She described MAMC as a place of excellence which offers the best by way of training, teaching and practice.

"I feel gratified being amidst luminaries of the profession", Ms Dikshit said, tracing the evolution of the landmark institution.

She asked young doctors entering the portals of the hallowed institution to take inspiration from their seniors, both in terms of dedication to work and in the excellence they have achieved.

Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri euologised the contribution of the professionals in giving a better deal to the man on the street. He said while the rich can avail the services of private health providers, the poor often use the services of government hospitals.

MAMC Dean A K Aggarwal spoke of the high quality of professionals which man hospitals like the MAMC.

On the occassion, a documentary was shown which traces the history of MAMC, located amidst monuments built by the Moghul rulers.

Once a jail, the Institution is today a front runner in the field of medical education and services.

Keeping the tradition alive, the first batch of doctors of MAMC felicitated the Golden Jubilee batch of the College.

Dr N P Singh, Secretary of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations Committee and Professor of medicine of the college, said the fraternity would launch a special programme relating to care for the elderly. Besides social and cultural programmes, a mega event would be organsied later in the year. During this event, interactive sessions would be organised between Nobel Laureates in the field of medicine and experts from other sectors.
