New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) The pace of providing basic civic amenities in unauthorised colonies would be accelerated once the Union Government issues notification for the regularisation of these colonies, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today.

Delivering her concluding address in the three-day 69th Bhagidari workshop organised on civic issues, Ms Dikshit said the Union Urban Development Minister had given assurance about the resolution of issues concerning all unauthorised colonies in Delhi within the next few days.

It would facilitate provision of all required basic amenities in unauthorised colonies where more than 40 lakh people are putting up.

''They are also entitled for better living conditions,'' Ms Dikshit said, adding that the courts would also be approached to take a sympathetic view in the matter as the issue of providing basic amenities to such large number of people is also important.

''The Government has chalked out an action plan for which Rs 2800 crore have been earmarked,'' Ms Dikshit said in her address at the workshop, organised for the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) of three districts -- North, North-West and Central -- wherein, senior officers from Delhi Jal Board, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, North Delhi Power Limited, Delhi Transport Corporation, Transport Department, Delhi Police, Delhi Development Authority and BSES were present.

The Chief Minister exhorted all concerned agencies to concentrate on concrete suggestions submitted by the RWAs which have transformed themselves into active partners in the development of the city.

She said the Bhagidari, which has seen much headway, has enhanced level of satisfaction of the people as Government has been receiving less number of complaints as compared to previous years.

''The feedback from the people has also worked as a catalyst force which has further helped our Government to march forward in the direction of making Delhi a world-class city,'' she said, adding that sustainable support from the people would go a long way in changing the face of the city.

Noting that the Bhagidari Movement had become instrumental in involvement of people in changing their lot, she said, ''the programme has been introduced in various Departments including Education where contribution of Vidyalaya Kalyan Samitis have turned impossible into possible by presenting better school results which have gone from 37 per cent to 82 per cent.'' ''The movement is also being introduced in Government Hospitals where prominent persons would be involved as volunteers and visitors to ensure smooth functioning of healthcare services. They would also ensure that benefits are reaching to the needy and vulnerable sections of the society,'' she added.

Mentioning that Transmission and Distribution losses in power sector have come down from 52 per cent to 23 per cent, she said, ''In case losses further decrease, the Government may consider passing the benefit to the customers.'' UNI
