Youth convicted for raping 8-year-old girl

Sangli, Maharashtra, Aug 31 (UNI) A local court here today sentenced a 23-year-old youth to 10 years rigorous imprisonment holding him guilty of raping a minor girl at Yelavee village in Tasgaon tehsil of this district last year.

According to the prosecution, on December 23 last year, Pandurang Lalasaheb Yadav had asked an eight-year-old girl to come to his house under the pretext that her parents were waiting for her there. The youth took the girl to a field where he raped her.

The girl had later told her parents about the incident and had to be hospitalised for treatment.

Nine witnesses testified in the case, including the lady doctor who had treated the girl.
