Teacher accused of running sex racket involving students arrested

New Delhi, Aug 31 (UNI) Police today arrested the government school teacher, accused of running a sex racket involving school students from her Yojana Vihar residence in East Delhi this morning.

Uma Khurana, 41, Mathematics teacher at the Government Sarvodaya Girls Senior Secondary School on Asaf Ali Road, was arrested today morning, said DCP (Central) Alok Kumar.

''She was arrested under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act. A raid was also conducted at her place but nothing incriminating was found. We just picked a mobile from the place.'' Currently the video tapes of the 'sting operation', carried by the television channel, was being examined and after it was studied the next step would be taken, he added.

Meanwhile, Khurana was sent to two-day police custody after she was presented in a local court.

Sources said the situation in Mahal Azam Khan area of Daryaganj on Asaf Ali Road, where the situation erupted after the 'sting operation' was aired yesterday, remained calm today and everything was normal.

The school also functioned normally, they added.

Yesterday, dozens of vehicles were damaged and a police Gypsy van set on fire by angry demonstrators after news of a local school teacher having being caught 'red-handed' on camera 'trading' a student was aired by a news channel.

The Delhi government had suspended the accused and ordered an inquiry into the incident which would submit its report in two days.

According to the TV 'report', the teacher would take nude photographs of girl students who visited her house for tuition after drugging them. She would then coerce them into prostitution threatening to get their photographs published.

The accused was recruited in 1987 in an MCD school.

In 1994, she was promoted as a TGT (Maths) in a Delhi government school.

Last year, she was suspended for misconduct and poor school result during her stint in the Vivek Vihar branch of Sarvodaya school.

She was reinstated and transferred to the Daryaganj branch of the Sarvodaya school about two months ago from the Vivek Vihar branch after parents in that school lodged written complaints against her.
