Special committee to look into Gujjar demands asks for more time
Jaipur, Aug 31 (UNI) The three-member special committee formed to look into the Gujjars' demand for ST status has requested the Rajasthan government for three more months to present its report as its deadline finishes on September 12.
Retd Justice Jasraj Chopra, who is heading the committee, said the committee had completed 35 to 40 per cent work including conducting hearings and examining the documents submitted.
He said the full report could be prepared only after three more months and asked for time till December 12.
The hearings of Gujjar and Meena communities were being conducted and would continue till September 8.
The state government had formed the committee on June 12 after it reached an agreement with Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti(GASS) on June 4.
The Gujjar agitation had crippled the entire state besides Delhi and Haryana, Damaged public property and left 26 people dead between May 29 and June 4.
Meanwhile, GASS leader Dr Roop Singh said there might be disruption in law and order if the commttee failed to submit its report by September 12.
GASS members would hold a meeting in Jaipur to discuss the situation.
