Software exports from Ktaka touch Rs.12,500 cr during April-July

Bangalore, Aug 31 (UNI) Continuing its dominance in the IT sector in India, Karnataka saw software exports to the tune of Rs.12,500 crore during the first four months of the current fiscal and its growth in the State continued to be ahead of the industry growth, Software Technology Park of India-Bangalore Director J Parthasarathy said.

Talking to newsmen here he said that as many as 45 IT Companies with a cumulative investment of over Rs.600 crore were approved during the first four months and the belief that Bangalore was slowing down at the cost of other cities was not true.

Some of the prominent companies who entered the state during April-July period were Airbus, AXA, Etisalt, Flow Serve and M.com Referring to the Incubation centre in STPI Bangalore, he said six companies were already using the facility with one of them having secured external investment, was likely to move out. Three more companies were in the pipeline.

Karnataka Secretary for Information Technology and Bio-Technology M N Vidyashankar said that the state was in the process of rewriting its IT policy to make it more industry oriented.

The vision Group on IT which already had two sittings had wanted certain details from the government on IT penetration in rural areas and in government work and they would be studied before the policy was re-framed. The next meeting of the vision group headed by Chief Mentor of Infosys, Mr N R Narayanamurthy, would take stock of the data provided and move ahead, he added.
