Shahabuddin awarded ten years RI for attempt on life of SP
Siwan, Aug 31 (UNI) A local sessions court today awarded ten years' rigorous imprisonment to incarcerated RJD MP Md Shahabuddin and two police personnel, Jahangir Alam and Khalid, in connection with the murderous attack on then Siwan Superintendent of Police S K Singhal.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Gyaneshwar Srivastav sentenced the convicts under three separate charges.
Apart from ten years' RI under the attempt to murder case, the court slapped a fine of Rs 2000 on the convicts failing which they would be liable to serve RI for an additional six months.
The judge sentenced them to seven years' RI with a fine of Rs 2000 each, on the charged under the arms act. They were also handed two years' simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 each under section 353 of the IPC for hindering government functioning.
Earlier, Shahabuddin was brought to the court under tight security from Siwan jail.
This is the fourth case in which Shahabuddin has been sentenced.
The court had already awarded life imprisonment to the MP who faces charges in almost 50 cases.
According to the FIR, the attack took place on May 3, 1996 when Shahabuddin, then an MLA from Zeeradei and his men fired at Singhal at Dome Bazar. Singhal had narrowly escaped the bullets.
