Several SUCI workers injured in police lathicharge
Kolkata, Aug 31 (UNI) Several Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) activists were injured when police used lathis to disperse the agitating partymen trying to enter the prohibited area at Rani Rashmoni Road here today.
Police said the SUCI workers were demonstrating in protest against the hike of prices of essentials.
Suddenly the party workers tried to break the police cordon in a bid to enter the prohibited area, forcing the latter to resort to lathicharge in which a large number of activists sustained injuries.
At least ten SUCI workers were arrested and taken to custody.
A posse of police force arrived the spot to bring the situation under control.
